Opening soon
Scope Galleries is pleased to present EXCHANGE an exhibition by visiting Chinese artist ZHOU MIEN and Melbourne based artist DENISE KEELE-BEDFORD.
Zhou Mien is based in Beijing and will be visiting South West Victoria to undertake an arts-based residency at the Julia Street Creative Spaces in Portland. Highly skilled in his painting practice, Zhou's work in this exhibition plays with political and cultural dialogues pertaining to East and West. Zhou has been involved in numerous exhibitions in China and currently has a studio in the Song Zhuang Artist Village located in the outskirts of Beijing.
The work of Denise Keele-bedford offers some contrast. A Melbourne based artist, Denise divides her time between practising in Australia and China. Having established a studio in Beijing in 2005 her work has been strongly influenced by Chinese culture and symbolism which is exemplified by the traditional methods and materials she has employed in the series of work that will be shown in EXCHANGE. Denise has a strong exhibiting record, she has been included in various publications and her work is held in national and international collections.
The two artists have produced very different work from their own perspectives and the exhibition should create interesting dialogue and exchange. The Mayor of Warrnambool, Cr Jacinta Ermacora will officially launch the exhibition at 3pm Saturday, February 11.
RSVP Wednesday February 8 mail@scopegalleries.com or phone 55614758.
The exhibition is current from Saturday, February 11 through to Sunday, March 4, 2012
Gallery Hours are 12noon to 5pm Thursday to Sunday or by appointment
